Student retention can refer to the process by which a student is required to repeat a grade in which he or she has not
met certain standards of understanding of the core curriculum in a school that is considered necessary for further education.
In most cases it coincides with a GPA of 1.0 or below.
This seems like a logical step to aiding students in achieving education, but does it really work effectively in
practice? In all actuality, student retention often times creates as many problems as it is intended to fix. That is not
to say that it is guaranteed to be ineffective for all students. It is to say that it is not the only choice and often times
is uneffective for a myriad of reasons.
